Instrument Pilot Course
The following flight course requirements are general and brief.
Additional requirements can be found under the reference FAR (Federal Aviation Regulation) number next to the course title.
Requirements for Instrument Rating (FAR 61.65)
Private Pilot's License
125 hours minimum total flight time.
20 hours of this 40 hour course must be solo (alone).
50 hours of cross country flight time as a licensed pilot.
You must pass a Instrument Pilot Written Exam.
You must pass a Instrument Pilot Oral and Practical Flight Test
This course should be completed in 90 days or less.
Please remember that in order to qualify for an Instrument rating you need 50 hours of cross country flight time as a licensed pilot. Student pilot cross country time does not count.
It is possible to combine the last 10 or 20 hours of cross country flight time as PIC and the first 10 to 20 hours of Instrument Dual flight time. If the flight instructor acts as a safety pilot on your PIC cross country flights, while giving you instrument training and does not enter the IFR system ( instructor act as ATC) the flight time is considered both PIC and Instrument Dual Flight Instruction.
